I wholeheartedly believe in the power of a strong, trusting relationship between counselor and client to foster meaningful, lasting change. I view counseling as a collaborative partnership, one where clients feel empowered to express their concerns, explore solutions, and work toward their goals. I strive to be an ally to each person I work with, welcoming individuals from all backgrounds, identities, and orientations.

With an empathetic, solution-focused approach, I bring a passion for helping others understand themselves and navigate life's challenges. I have a particular interest in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which supports clients in recognizing and reshaping unhelpful thought and behavior patterns. Gaining insight into these patterns can open the door to growth, healing, and renewed self-understanding. I have also received extensive training through the Gottman Institute, strengthening my ability to guide couples toward healthier, more connected relationships.

Alongside these evidence-based approaches, I can incorporate therapeutic hand-knitting into both individual sessions and group work as a complementary, mindfulness-based intervention. Knitting can help regulate the nervous system, reduce anxiety, and create a sense of safety through rhythm, repetition, and creativity. For clients who have experienced trauma, keeping the hands busy can make it easier to talk, reflect, or simply be present without feeling overwhelmed. This approach can be especially supportive for those who struggle to put feelings into words, allowing healing to happen at a pace that feels manageable and safe.

My professional background includes over 30 years in education, including 20 years as a high school principal, where I worked closely with students, families, and staff. These experiences have equipped me with deep insight into career counseling, adolescent development, and the complex dynamics of family systems and transitions. As the wife and mother of multiple first responders, I have also developed a strong understanding of how trauma affects both mind and body. I incorporate a holistic perspective into my work, helping clients manage somatic symptoms and stress responses related to trauma.

I hold a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Maryville University, a Master's in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Lindenwood University, a Master's in School Administration from Southern Illinois University, and a Bachelor's degree in English from the University of Missouri. I am currently a provisionally licensed professional counselor (PLPC) in the state of Missouri.

I am honored to be part of the team at Bizelli Counseling and look forward to supporting our community through compassionate, evidence-based mental health care.
